Water conservancy and Hydropower Engineering

     

Water conservancy and hydropower engineering is a traditional major in Northwest A&F University has a strong influence at home. This major began to enroll students in 1973 and affected by the adjustment of faculties in the 1980s, and suspended in 1979. With the development of national economic construction and the increase of demand for water conservancy and hydropower professionals, Northwest A&F University resumed the enrollment of this major in 2001. Taking the demand for talents in social and economic development as the starting point, using the teaching, scientific research and social service platform of our school, this major gives full play to the unique advantages of having the ability to carry out large-scale hydraulic and river engineering experiments, the ability and experience of structural material testing, adheres to the three elements of theoretical knowledge, practical skills and innovation ability, and forms a water conservancy and hydropower engineering major with distinct regional characteristics and location advantages in hydraulic hydraulics and river dynamics, water engineering structure and materials in cold and arid areas, irrigation hydraulics, etc. For a long time, this major has trained a large number of high-quality talents for the construction and management of national water conservancy and hydropower projects, and has become an important talent training base for the water conservancy and hydropower industry in western China.

The major was selected as the construction site of Featured Specialty of Shaanxi province in 2009. It passed the China engineering education certification in 2019. It is also a First-class major of Northwest A&F University.

The major of Water conservancy and Hydropower Engineering aims at cultivating innovative and composite senior talents with the basic theory, basic knowledge, professional skills and new engineering awareness of water conservancy engineering disciplines, and can engage in surveying, planning, design, construction, operation, scientific research and management in water conservancy and hydropower engineering and related fields. After five years of graduation, students have the ability to become professional engineers or equivalent professional and technical capabilities, and can become backbone talents in technology, research and management of water conservancy and hydropower engineering and related fields.

Students of this major are trained according to the major category of water conservancy in the first academic year. According to the combination of grades and wishes, students can be transferred in the second semester of the first academic year. In the second academic year, students are trained according to the Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering. According to their wishes, students are classified into two different types, i.e., innovation and composite types, in the fourth semester. Students are trained according to the direction of their own major in the third academic year.
